Michael “Mikey” Rockman’s Bar Mitzvah Project
When I was eight years old, I was excited to spend my first summer at sleep away camp. I came to Nah-Jee-Wah as one of the fourth generation of my family that has been going to the camp. I couldn’t wait to get there. My older sister was always telling me about all the fun she had. However, Covid was in swing and camp was postponed. Then when I was nine years old, I was finally able to go for my first summer. I was in the youngest division, Asher, and despite the fact that it was my first time away from home, I still had a lot of fun. I had a great time at camp right from the start, and made a bunch of friends, some of whom will be with me on my Bar Mitzvah day. I want to make sure everyone with a passion for sleep away camp has the same opportunity that my family has had. I decided to raise money for the Camp scholarship program for this reason. I spent the best summers of my life at camp and I want other kids to enjoy that too. We are given so many opportunities to try new sports and games, and meet new people from all over the world. I loved learning to skateboard and seeing the different foods my counselors eat in other countries! A lot of kids don’t have opportunities like I did and are not able to go to camp, so I want to raise money for them so they can have these amazing experiences too.
